OK, I will admit that we are American Idol Junkies this year our favorites are David Cook & Carly Smithson. Of course we have to admit as does the whole world that David Archuleta is the best singer very on American Idol but the “kid” is a little annoying. Of course being a little biased we alway like the “Rockers” ever since Bo Bice came and Rocked American Idol. Well this week Grand Rapids received a little visit from Carrie Underwood. Monday Carrie Underwood played at the Van Adel Arena. No we did not go. Not a big or little for that matter Carrie Underwood fan. Especially when she sings “Get out of this town” here in Grand Rapids. You already know how much we love Grand Rapids. Here is a 3 minute clip from her concert Monday. I hope Carrie likes Life in Grand Rapids!

It is a rainy Friday morning. We live just minutes from the Gerald R. Ford International Airport. This is a great airport. It is not to big and not to small. It is easy to get in and out of. Two weeks ago my wife and I flew out to San Francisco to play around a bit. Of course we had a great time. Well this is spring break week and this is the busiest time for the GRR Airport. Busier than Thanksgiving or Christmas. Everyone is need a reprieve from the winter.

This spring break will be additionally challenging because of the construction happening to the parking lot. They are building a new parking structure and it will be nice once it is completed. I am glad that they are redoing the parking structure. The next thing that they need to do is hire new security guards.

The security guards at the GRR airport are like Barney Fife. Every time we fly in or out we can not stop for 10 seconds to drop off one another or pick one another up. It is such a joke. The last time my wife was picking me up from the airport we were switching sides so that I could drive. I was in the car and she was getting in when the security guard came running. Literally, and screaming “You can’t stop here keep moving!” OK I have yet to figure out how to drop off someone or pick them up from the boarding area without stopping. If anyone has a trick on how to do that please let me know.

Well I guess that’s Life in Grand Rapids!

Wow!! The sun is out and what a day. No snow to be seen anywhere although it did snow briefly yesterday, little flurries. This is the first day I did not wear a big winter coat. Awesome. So I walk out onto my deck and I can tell that soon there will be signs of life. Spring is in the air here in Grand Rapids and not a minute to soon.

So I walk out onto my deck and breath in the spring air. Look around the deck and think to myself it is grill season. This is our second summer in the house. Last year we went to Lowes on 28th Street (They need to contact Manobyte to get them listed properly on Google..Anyway) and we bought A new Grill, Deck Furniture, and all that other fun stuff in preparation for chillin’ on the deck.

One of the biggest reason for buying this house was the backyard.

Prior to moving to Grand Rapids we lived in Marshall, Michigan. There we had an awesome backyard. Eventhough behind our house was the main road that went through Marshall you would have never known it. I had huge trees that blocked everything for sight. When we started looking for a house in Grand Rapids I wanted to live close to work. Which I do, did, Oh I will tell yo about that one later, anyway… as we looked at house about 30 or so most of the houses that we looked at had backyards that overlooked someone else yard or house. We just did not want that. This house was great because as you can see there is a pond , trees that are full in the summer and it is on protected wetlands so noone will ever build behind us. How great is that!

There are houses to the left and the right of us but the previous owners had two trees strategicly brought in and placed so that in the summer you can barely see our neighbors house. Not that we do not like our neighbors, they are great and all but there is nothing like sitting out on the deck look at and just enjoying a scenic view.

So spring time is time to break out the grill. Of course I did grill out this winter, you should have seen me standing in 6 inches of snow, boots, gloves, hat and coat grilling steaks. But those were the best steak we have had. We got them at Meijer and I should have taken note of the cut but they were fantastic. Know that spring is here I will be grilling out at least once if not twice a day. I’ll share some of my recipes with you other’s well if I told you I would have to kill you, so I guess those will stay with me.

We moved to Grand Rapids 2 years ago and we love it. I have lived in several places prior to moving to Grand Rapids. I lived in Lexington Kentucy, Indianapolis India, and Patterson New York. In Michigan we have lived in Lansing, Haslett, Williamston, and Marshall. In addition to living in various cities, my wife and I have traveled extensively. We have been to Paris, London, Egypt, Israel, Jordon, Jamacia, Mexico and Hawaii. We have traveled from coast to coast but we love living in Grand Rapids Michigan. OK, so you may here me griping about how cold the winters are here, but we like it here.

Now we have a few spots were we like to go and play but we really love living in Grand Rapids, so I think we will stick around. Grand Rapids is not a small town but it is not a big city either. It has a little bit of this and a little bit of that. It is just right.

We moved to Grand Rapids for work and did not know much about Grand Rapids. So this blog is dedicated to life in Grand Rapids. This will help new comers get acquainted with Grand Rapids and it will keep my fellow Grand Rapids neighbors update to date with what is going in Grand Rapids.

Just like life I will post things that make you laugh, make you cry, make you mad, make you scared, make you happy, make you sad, make you ponder, make you wonder. This is will not however make any comments on government or religion and no comments will be allowed on those topics as well. Feel free to comment on anything I post. Agree or disagree I want to hear what you think as well.

So Welcome to Life in Grand Rapids.
